SBS 2003 Pricing

Microsoft Tweaks Its Small Biz Server Plans: If you can do without SQL Server, ISA Server, and FrontPage (and most people can), you can get Small Business Server Standard 2003 for just $599 (vs. $1,499 for the full version).

“The premium release includes Windows Server 2003, Exchange Server 2003, Windows SharePoint Services, SQL Server 2000, Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server (ISA) 2000 and a copy of FrontPage. The standard version does not include SQL Server, ISA Server or FrontPage.”

And they’ve raised the user ceiling to 75. You get five licenses with either version, but previously, you had to upgrade to the separate versions of all the products if you ever went above 50 users.

I like this note, and I hope it’s a trend:

“….Redmond’s tinkering now with the product pricing and licensing to attract users who might otherwise be lured by Linux.”
