An Actually Useful Web Cam

By Deane Barker on August 25, 2003

Aquatics and Arena Facility Construction Cam at the University of Prince Edward Island: There’s a great webcam here that will show you time-lapse of the last hour (by minute), the last 24 hours (by hour), and since the beginning of construction (at 11 a.m. every day; nothing much happens during the winter).

Via Reinvented.net, who adds:

“As a longtime webcam maintainer, I stand in awe of both their ability to keep their camera running, and their ability to keep it in the same place for so long.”

What I like about this is that it’s actually useful. Webcams are — by and large — novelties. However, if I was an alumni or taxpayer who was footing the bill for this project, it’d be helpful to gauge progress. Even in the last hour you can see people moving around and trucks coming in and out.
