Something Else My Wife Wouldn’t Want Me Trying

Wired has an article today on the SkyRay, a carbon-fiber wing for skydivers that will allow them to fly like jet fighters at 180+ MPH. Skydiving looked like fun before, but with one of these things?

I wonder how long it will be before the military begins evaluating this sort of technology. You could drop special forces guys into a country by flying outside their airspace and letting them zip towards their targets with something like the SkyRay.

  1. Last month an Austrian “Extreme Skydiver” used one of these things to fly across the English Channel — 22 miles. He started at about 30,000 feet, and hit speeds of 220mph.

Google for Felix Baumgartner to find stories about it.
