Get Windows 7

By Deane Barker on October 22, 2009

Windows 7 is the best operating system on the market : Slate doesn’t mince words:

Get Windows 7 […] Microsoft’s latest release is the best operating system on the market.

Notice they say the “best operating system.”  Not “best version of Windows.”

They have a few complaints, but:

These are only […] inconsequential defects in what’s otherwise a nearly flawless system. Indeed, the new Windows is not only the best operating system that Microsoft has ever produced. It is arguably the fastest, most intuitive, and most useful consumer desktop OS on the market today.

  1. I don’t usually read Slate, so forgive me if this sounds like a dumb question: do they normally seem to be pro-Windows, anti-Windows, pro-Mac, etc.? Or can this be taken as a mostly unb9iased opinion?

  2. But what did they say about Vista when it was released?

    Check out

Excerpt: “Like a good government, a good OS should mostly get out of the way. It needs to stay up and running, prevent invasions from intruders, and avoid ugly surprises. When judged by those criteria, Vista is up to the task.”

If they thought that Vista was “getting out of the way”, while the experience of so many users turned out to be exactly the opposite, maybe we can take the supposed new Windows7 “flawlessness” with a grain of salt :)
