More Farms Get Connected

By Deane Barker on July 30, 2003

Nearly half of all farmers have Internet access: I’ve done a fair amount of Web development for companies whose target market has been farmers or those in rural communities. This is a good trend to see.

“This year, 48% of farms have Internet access, a leap from the 13% that were online in 1997, the department said Tuesday. It’s a slight increase from 2001, when 43% were online.”

If you live in the Midwest and have ever been confronted with the overwhelming solitude of a rural farm — dozens of miles from the nearest point on any map — you’ll appreciate the value and effort in pushing data out there.
