The Hipster PDA is Real

By Deane Barker on September 11, 2007

So I’m here at FM’s Conversational Marketing Summit, and I’m sitting around talking to Merlin Mann of 43 Folders. We got to talking about Drupal, and he wanted to give me a phone number of a guy he knew.

He reached into his pocket, and…there it was. The Hipster PDA. I made him put it down so I could snap a picture of it with my phone.

For years, I thought the Hipster PDA was a joke. Some time ago, I realized they were serious, but I still never got it. I mean, come on — it’s a stack of index cards clipped together.

I mentioned this to Merlin, and he responded, “If you had to give me someone’s number right now, how would you do it?”

I paused. “I’d send you an email later.”

  1. This reminds of a conversation had on Monday – a friend was telling me how he missed part of a football game because his cable was out. I told him I did not miss anything – I have wireless television.
