The SketchUp-CNN Connection

By Deane Barker on October 1, 2006

CNN must be deep into Google. First we got the little geo-graphics labeled “Google Earth.” That was cool, because they were good graphics and Google Earth provided some value.

But the other day I saw a graphic on CNN that had “Google SketchUp” in the upper right. And it was terrible. It had a background of the senate chambers, I think, and little senator heads popped up on tombstone-like things.

I’ve used SketchUp, and I think it’s a great tool. But it’s a real stretch that it was providing any value at all there — I saw better news animations five years ago. It was pretty obvious that Google has a sponsorship with CNN whereby their tools have to appear on screen every so often.
