Creating New Files on FTP Hosts

By Deane Barker on September 26, 2006

Here’s a simple usability thing that is so handy. In the latest version of WinSCP (an SFTP client), you can right click and select “New > File”.

This is huge for me. I have to create new files out on remote hosts all the time, and I finally just created a text file on my desktop called “nothing.txt” that I would upload and rename.

All along, I thought a feature like this would work really well. It does.

  1. Cyberduck, the great opensource FTP client on OS X has had this feature for a little while now. Its great. I’ve been enjoying it for some time now.
