Tablet PCs vs. Smart Display

Windows Powered Smart Display: Home Page: Here’s something that I haven’t understood until now: what I think is a Tablet PC, may just be a Smart Display. Tablet PCs are complete machines — processor, RAM, hard drive, etc. A PC with a Smart Display, just has a remote monitor. All the PC hardware stays back on the desk, and the monitor just connects via 802.11b.

I played around with something at the Gateway Country Store the other day that I thought was a Tablet PC. Turns out it wasn’t. This is a common mistake, and this guy says the two technologies are so similar that Microsoft should drop Smart Displays until the Tablet PC thing takes off.
