Booting to Safe Mode

By Deane Barker on April 2, 2006

Starting your computer in Safe mode: I can never remember how to reboot into Safe Mode in Windows, since I do it so seldomly. The standard “hold down F8” method works only sporadically— on a lot of machines these days, it just results in a “Keyboard Failure” during POST.

Here’s a good, well-documented method courtesy of Symantec’s tech support site that uses the GUI interface in the Microsoft Configuration Utility. Don’t forget to uncheck the box before you reboot to get out of Safe Mode, of course.

File under “handy.”
