Sex.com Domain Name Sale

By Deane Barker on January 24, 2006

Source: Sex.com sold for $12 million: I think this is a record. The last domain sale I remember even approaching this was business.com, which sold for $7.5 million in 1999.

Sex.com, long coveted as potentially one of the most lucrative sites on the Web because of its catchy name, has been sold for about $12 million in cash and stock…

CreditCards.com sold for $2.75 million in 2004. Men.com went for $1.3 million in 2003, and loans.com went for $3 million in 2000.

Someone offered me $15,000 for gadgetopia.com a couple of months ago. You can get chicagobathrooms.com for $800. Sliding to perhaps the bottom of the barrel, nuttap.com is for sale with no price specified.

The oddest domain name I saw for sale while snooping around for this post? browardcountypublicrecords.com. I’m willing to bet the market for that domain name is pretty narrow, considered there’s exactly one Broward County in the country.
