Ndiyo! – Ndiyo System: I found this via a Metafilter post which proclaimed “Dumb terminals are cool again.” I don’t know if I’d go that far, but I know a ot of call center-type operations would like this arrangement.

The specific system we have developed consists of two or more “nivo” ultra-thin clients connected to a server PC running Open Source software. Together, these provide an extremely low cost, but highly capable, system.

Essentially they want to build all the necessary hardware into a video cable that connects to a central machine. We’ve truly come full circle.

Of course, this is what a big Windows Terminal Server install will get you as well, I suppose.

  1. LOLOLOL. And to think that I am old enough to have managed a setup with direct linked cables.

The idea is to centralize control and management of the systems… and it works. It is a tough call to know the best way to go.
