php.internals: PHP 6.0 Wishlist: Rasmus Lerdorf, the father of PHP, has started to speculate about what they’re going to do with PHP 6.

I am wondering if it may not be time to break some more stuff and do a bit of spring cleaning. It would mean many apps would need some work to work on PHP 6, but at the same time I think it is work people would welcome since it would mostly involve removing hacks instead of adding them.

My opinion: break the entire shindig by renaming all the functions consistenly and grouping them into object libraries.

  1. I agree, I was disappointed with the lack of naming convention in PHP 4 and they could just add new SPL to PHP 6 as to not break old code but introduce new coding practices.

I think they could also allow SQLite to be extended, but I can see why they wouldn’t want that be be done.
