Google Maps Pedometer

Gmaps Pedometer: Apps like this are a constant reminder that I suck. They’re devastating to my self-esteem.

I could ramble on about how cool this is, but let me just say that by opening up an API to your data, you open the whole world to it. And — even if you’re Google — the world will extend it so much further than you could do alone.

In the future, whenever anyone wonders about whether or not they should allow API access to their resource, I will just drop this application on the table and walk away. Apps like this are the stain on the blue cocktail dress of the API argument.

(And it’s accurate. The odometer in my car pegged my running route at 4.1 miles — this put it at 4.07.)
