BBC Backstage

BBC Backstage :: How to get started: The BBC is doing something pretty cool. They’re allowing people to create new applications using their content — specifically their RSS feeds.

You can participate in BBC Backstage by either building an application or web-based prototype that uses BBC content or, if you have an idea to use BBC content in new ways, then write it up, preferably with some designs as to how it could ‘work’ and share it.

Someone is plotting BBC-supplied tavel warnings onto Google Maps. Someone else is tracking how often the BBC headline changes (pretty often, it looks like). Yet another person is scanning BBC articles for geographic nouns and plotting them on a map.

So nice to see a “real” news outlet loosen up a bit and let people explore. Via eContent.
