The World’s First Web Cam

Trojan Room Coffee Pot Biography: The first Web cam in history was invented so that everyone in the Computer Lab at Cambridge would know if there was coffee without having to go looking. It ran from 1991 to 2001. The last image is here, which shows the pot be turned off for the last time.

The image was only updated about three times a minute, but that was fine because the pot filled rather slowly, and it was only greyscale, which was also fine, because so was the coffee.
