Remember the Ansari X Prize that SpaceShip One took last month? Robert Bigelow, a Las Vegas hotel magnate and founder of Bigelow Aerospace, has offered $50 million to the first private venture that can put “a crew of no fewer than five people to an altitude of 250 miles (400 kilometers) and complete two orbits of Earth at that altitude. Then they have to repeat that accomplishment within 60 days.”
Oh, and it’s got to be completed by January 10, 2010, and only US-based, non-government funded entrants need apply.
Amazing the stuff you bump into when you’ve got a day off and nothing on the honey-do list!
