Orbiter – A free space flight simulator: If you get tired of the terrestial confines of FlightGear, expand your boundaries a bit.

ORBITER is a free flight simulator that goes beyond the confines of Earth’s atmosphere. Launch the Space Shuttle from Kennedy Space Center to deploy a satellite, rendezvous with the International Space Station or take the futuristic Delta-glider for a tour through the solar system – the choice is yours.

But make no mistake — ORBITER is not a space shooter. The emphasis is firmly on realism, and the learning curve can be steep.

For the record, I still suck at FlightGear. As proof, I have a dozen different virtual planes lodged in the Transamerica Building and the Golden Gate Bridge.

  1. This game is completely awesome! Make sure you download some addons. There’s a sound addon, and a spacecraft called the Delta Glider III that’s a much more advanced version of the basic ‘Delta Glider’ that comes with the game. I got completely hooked on this thing and stayed up WAY too late last night trying to perform an orbital burn to meet up with ths ISS
