He’s Got a Mouth on Him

As part of their coverage of Microsoft’s recent broad settlement with Sun, CNET has compiled a short list of Scott McNealy’s snarky comments regarding Microsoft. A lot of it is a bit over the top, but it’s all pretty funny. My favorite:

“the Corvair of Web servers, unsafe at any speed” ([regarding] Internet Information Server)

Overall, this looks like a case of Sun reading the writing on the wall, and Microsoft trying to say “See, we don’t monopolize!”. My guess is that Sun will try to create the UNIX variant that’s best able to integrate with Microsoft products. A *NIX box that can participate in the Active Directory domain, grab data from Exchange, and run FOSS software could make a lot of inroads in a lot of MS-centric shops that are looking to cut costs by using open source for some projects.

  1. This one is good too:

“Microsoft is now talking about the digital nervous system. I guess I would be nervous if my system was built on their technology, too.”
