Internet Sales Taxes Are Coming

By Deane Barker on March 3, 2004

Here come the Net taxes: Apparently 19 states are adding a line to their tax returns asking people how much stuff they bought on the Internet this year, and asking them to pay sales tax on it. And, according to this article, that’s only the beginning.

Don’t snicker at the effort by 19 states this year to collect Internet sales tax. You’ll be sorry.

Sure, from an enforcement perspective, adding a line on tax forms and asking you to pay up is laughable.

And yes, it probably won’t net much.

But you know what? It’s the beginning of a tax tidal wave on the Net.
