Broadband Over Power Lines

Cinergy plugs in as Web provider: I can’t even comprehend how this works.

A unit of Cinergy Corp. today will become the nation’s first electric utility to offer high-speed Internet service to customers via its power lines, turning every electrical outlet in homes or offices into a Web connection.

One of the problems with broadband is that cable companies have a virtual lock on the infrastructure necessary. Thank God the power companies can join in now, because they’re so much more trustworthy.
