Pop-Up Windows

Jeffrey Zeldman Presents: Auto PopUps Dead?: He makes a good point about those sites that insist on controlling every aspect of your browser window:

“Since Mozilla 0.9, most modern browsers have given users the ability to turn off self-launching windows. And most of us do just that, thereby eliminating unwanted popup and popunder ads. This also means we can no longer see your self-launching porfolio site. Word to your mother.”

My wife was trying to upload pictures to Shutterfly once, and it just wouldn’t work. She didn’t realize that I had installed a pop-up blocker and that it was killing the pop-up window she was trying to launch.

Once again, spammers and ad pushers have ruined something else.
