Central Vs. Distributed Content Management

By Deane Barker on October 27, 2003

Should You Centralize of De-Centralize Your Web Publishing?: Decentralize, without a doubt. I’ve tried to do it the other way, and after the enterprise gets to a certain level, it stops working.

“Large websites often struggle to develop an efficient and cost-effective publishing model. Centralizing publishing ensures a consistent quality of what is published, but is often slow and frustrating. Decentralized publishing is faster and often more cost-effective, but can result in inconsistent quality, unless rigorous publishing standards are adhered to.”

This article is by the well-known content management consultant Gerry McGovern. I saw him speak in San Jose a couple of years ago. He was quite good. His Web site is worth checking out.
