Virginia Tech recently announced their intentions to build a new supercomputer using dual 2GHz G5 Macs. Yesterday they presented some of the details of the project. Of particular interest is that it will cost $5.2 million and they want it in place by October in order to qualify for the Top Supercomputer list. They anticipate it will be in the top five.

Virginia Tech has started to assemble their new supercomputer comprised of 1100 new G5 Macs. Their site devoted the cluster has quite a bit of good information and some pictures taken during the early stages of installation. Our previous post on the subject is here.
