Google Rethinks Google TV

Google TV Faces Delays Amid Poor Reviews: Google TV is shaping up to be a misfire.

[…] Google has asked the TV makers to delay their introductions, according to people familiar with the company’s plans, so that it can refine the software, which has received a lukewarm reception. The late request caught some of the manufacturers off guard. And it illustrates the struggles Google faces as it tries to expand into the tricky, unfamiliar realm of consumer electronics, and drum up broad interest in a Web-based TV product that consumers want.

Apple TV fared about the same.  Curious to see how the new batch of ethernet-enabled TVs do in the marketplace.

  1. I don’t think Apple is facing the exact same fate as Google TV. Positive reviews (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/22/technology/22pogue.html), content being blocked (http://www.gtvhub.com/2010/11/10/fox-com-now-blocking-google-tv-devices/), and Apple is approaching 1 million units sold (http://www.loopinsight.com/2010/12/21/apple-expects-to-sell-one-millionth-new-apple-tv-this-week/). Comparing remote controls alone will demonstrate the difference in approach and potential audience.

  2. I’m glad that they didn’t wait! I just got the Logitech Revue from my job at DISH Network, and I think there is absolutely no room to improve this device! Its perfect and I never want to go back to TV without it! I will never wait for another commercial again, I just open Youtube or Facebook until my show is back. Also, with the integration feature for my DISH equipment, I can search not only the internet, but also my DVR content and the DISH guide. I can never choose between TV and internet and now I will never have to. I recommend this to everyone, check it out at dish.com/googletv!
