P-ISM


Photo Gallery (Pensonal Computer): Snopes reports on something almost impossibly cool. It’s a computer broken apart into pieces, each the size of a pen. The screen and keyboard are projected onto surfaces.

P-ISM is a gadget package including five functions: a pen-style cellular phone with a handwriting data input function, virtual keyboard, a very small projector, camera scanner, and personal ID key with cashless pass function. P-ISMs are connected with one another through short-range wireless technology. The whole set is also connected to the Internet through the cellular phone function.

It’s very much a prototype. Don’t expect to see this at your local Best Buy for a while.

Heard about the virtual keyboard component a couple of years ago, but hadn't heard anything more since then... Does anyone know if they've actually progressed to commercial production? (or is it still in prototype?)

Yes, the keyboards are currently available from Virtual Wireless, but they are already back-ordered -c

This has been built, but is not in production as of yet. Go to www.nec.com and type in P-ISM in the search bar. NEC is the manufacturer of the only known prototype.
