darwinawards.com — Perl God Wanted

Home

The official Darwin Awards website is seeking help:

I Need a Programmer! I want to give the website a Wiki-esque interface. I want to do it in Perl, preferably OO-Perl, nevermind why. Can you do the job? Write to me with your qualifications, and I can send you specs for what I have in mind. Oh please oh please oh please, let there be a Perl God for me!

The Darwin Awards, for those who have been hiding under a rock, are most often given posthumously in honor of those who accidentally kill themselves in really stupid ways, thus improving human genome by removing themselves from the gene pool. The website exists to share the stories of the award recipients. And some of the stories are darned funny.

Surely there’s got to be someone reading this that can help revamping this great site.

Sounds like they’re trying to goad someone into being next year’s recipient to me.

Then, use a wiki! Or, better yet, write it using Rails :) I wonder if this means that the Darwin Awards will be their own top winner for next year?

Unable to volunteer myself, CGI::Wiki, CGI::Wiki::Kwiki or Kwiki might be helpfull, as in, someone has already done a Wiki in OO Perl and made it available.

I am Wendy Northcutt. It’s rather <raspberry> that you think my request makes me a Darwin Award candidate. Not everyone can implement a wiki! Certainly not me. Someone who volunteered to discuss my ideas with me, guide me in the proper choice, and implement that, would be welcome!

Furthermore, a vanilla wiki won’t work, as I need the contributions to be somewhat moderated, as my website attracts many juvvies.

Oh well, there is surely a Perl God out there for me somewhere.

Best wishes, Wendy
