Those guys in Google Labs have great taste, but they must have a bit too much time on their hands. The latest of their brainchildren to be cut loose is Google X, which bears more than a passing resemblance to the Dock in Apple’s Mac OS X.
“Roses are red. Violets are blue. OS X rocks. Homage to you.”
Not nearly as smooth or as customizable as the Dock, but just give them time.
That link is down. It's down for everyone else too. Seems like it got pulled quite abruptly.
That's quite disappointing. I thought it was a bit strange that it wasn't listed on the Google Labs page http://labs.google.com/
By the way, I got the link from MacMinute News http://www.macminute.com/2005/03/16/google-x/ -- credit where credit is due. That page IS still there, just to remind me that I didn't imagine the whole thing! That'd be something new; internet hallucinations.
Gotta love the Google ads on this page; "Dock Accessories and more: Cleats, pier lights, rod holders, fish cleaning tables, piling caps."
Sorry but when I first saw the Apple doc I thought it looked like the CDE / XFCE dock. Granted Apple's is much more refined, but the concept of a doc was no new. Please correct me if I am wrong.
This guy managed to capture it before it got taken down:
